Brown Named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week

Junior honored after racking up nine points in first two games of 2024

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Junior forward Margey Brown of the Duquesne University women's soccer team was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week Monday.

In collecting her first career weekly honor from the A-10, Brown opened the 2024 season in style, registering nine points on nine shots to help the Dukes split their first two games of the year. She is the first student-athlete for Duquesne to be named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week outright since former forward Katie O'Connor in October of 2017.

In a 6-2 win over Mercyhurst at Rooney Field to open the campaign, Brown tallied seven points thanks to three goals and an assist. She tied the program single-game record for points thanks to the performance against the Lakers, as Sarah Nicholson originally scored seven points in a 9-1 win over Robert Morris Sept. 2, 1995, which was Duquesne's first game as an NCAA Division I program. That total was matched in a 4-3 win at La Salle Oct. 26, 2001, by Becky Barritt.

Brown, a native of Medina, Ohio, gave the Dukes a 2-0 lead over Mercyhurst at 12:50 with her first goal of the contest after setting up redshirt freshman Hailey Longwell with the game's opening marker at 10:23. Brown added two more goals in the second half as she became the 11th different member of the Dukes to notch a hat trick in program history.

Three days later at Highmark Stadium in Station Square against No. 7 Pitt, Brown scored the lone tally for the Dukes in an eventual 2-1 setback, as her goal at 87:58 helped cut Duquesne's deficit in half. Through two games of the 2024 season, Brown has already amassed more points (9) than she had in her previous 36 career games (8).

Led by head coach Al Alvine, the Dukes return to Rooney Field for their next two games. Duquesne hosts Bowling Green Sunday, August 25, at 3:00 p.m. before welcoming Kent State to the Bluff Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day. The contest against the Falcons is part of a soccer doubleheader, as the Duquesne men's program will host Canisius in the first game at 12:30 p.m.
