WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Duquesne's Mia Pierce has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference office this afternoon.

Pierce, a freshman from Uniontown, Pa., placed fourth in discus with a long of 43.34m (142' 2") and fifth in javelin with a 38.84m (127' 5") mark this past weekend at George Mason's Dalton Ebanks Invitational.

The discus mark is third in the Atlantic 10 this season and the top mark by a freshman, while the javelin mark ranks ninth in the A-10 and is second among the league's rookies.

Pierce and the Dukes will be back in action this weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell.
