YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Sophomore
Rose Kuchera led the Duquesne University indoor track and field team at the season-opening YSU Icebreaker on Friday, winning the long jump with a program-record mark of 6.08 meters (19-11.5).
Kuchera leaped 6.08 meters on both her third and fifth attempts and cleared six meters four times on the day. The Canonsburg, Pa., native competed in a career-high four events, making her debuts in both the 60-meter dash (7.85) and shot put (10.03m/32-11), and also ran on the 4x400-meter relay that placed fifth.
FULL RESULTS
Freshman
Melani Schmidt ran 7.79 in the 60 meters in her collegiate debut to move into fifth on Duquesne's all-time list. She also finished seventh in the 400 meters in 57.69, followed by freshman
Selma Bajgoric in ninth at 57.98.
Eva Leatherman took third in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:20.08 and added personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (9.55) and long jump (5.35m/17-6.75) while competing in five events.
Junior
Anna Rorrer finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.88.
Sophomore
Lauren Stroka was fourth in the triple jump with a career-best 11.61 meters (38-1.25).
All four Dukes in the women's high jump landed in the top 10.
Caroline Garbe led the group in fifth at 1.65 meters (5-5).
Brandi Brozeski,
Grace Patterson (personal best) and
Isabella Costa each cleared 1.60 meters (5-3) to finish seventh through ninth.
Sophomore
Trinity Basara added a personal-best 1:00.96 in the 400 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Leatherman, Kuchera, Brozeski and Costa closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in 4:01.01.
Seven Dukes made their collegiate debuts: Bajgoric, Brozeski, Costa,
Seava Cresta, Schmidt,
Kyndra Seddon, and
Macie Steiner.
