LORETTO, Pa. -- The Duquesne University track and field teams had a strong showing in their final tune-up before the conference championships with 12 event titles and a pair of record book edits on Saturday at Saint Francis' Red Flash Open.
Madelyn Moretti reset her own women's shot put school record for the second time this season and freshman
Vincent Rupp headlined the men's team moving up to second all-time in the DU record book for high jump.
RESULTS
MORETTI SHATTERS OWN RECORD
- Madelyn Moretti reset her own school shot put record for the second time this season and won the meet with a long of 14.72m (48' 3.5"), surging past her previous record of 14.50m set two weeks ago at Bucknell ... As a sophomore, this is Moretti's third school-record shot put mark of her career.
- Moretti also won the Red Flash Open women's discus throw with a long of 44.65m (146' 6").
RUPP MOVING UP IN THE RECORD BOOK
- Vincent Rupp won the men's high jump with a clear of 2.01m (6' 7") ... Rupp is now in sole possession of second on the all-time top-five list in Duquesne history ... A freshman, Rupp joined the top-five on opening weekend with a 1.95m at NC State, then tied John Clifford's second-best mark in school history (1.98m) from 2007 at Bucknell prior to this weekends career best for sole ownership of second.
EVENT WINNERS
- Including Moretti and Rupp's meet victories, nine events were won by DU women and three top spots were taken by the men's squad.
- Amy Allen took first in the women's 200m dash with a personal-best 25.48.
- Hannah Seitzinger (55.64) won the women's 400m, while teammate Kaylin Cousin (58.77) followed in second ... Seitzinger's 55.64 was a Red Flash Open meet record.
- Liv Wilson was first to cross the line in the women's 800m with a 2:11.87, pacing an army of Dukes in the race ... Duquesne had six runners finish in the top-10 (of 25) ... Haley Hamilton (2:14.46) was the runner-up and went on to win the 1500m race with a 4:47.94.
- Senior Trevor Carson won the 800m on the men's side with a personal-best 1:55.78 ... The Dukes had four of the top five finishers in the race (Jack Barnhisel - 2nd, Sam de la Riva - 4th, and Ben Colli - 5th).
- Ally Christy topped the field in the women's 3000m with a 10:50.13 ... Sophia Trevenen PR'd in second with a 10:51.24 and Mary Thornton (11:06.87) crossed in third place.
- Sadie Wetzel won the high jump with a clear of 1.68m (5' 6"), just a centimeter shy of her career-best outdoor mark.
- The 4x400m relay teams were the lone competitors on both sides ... The women's team of Cydney Blahovec, Kate Saum, Mara Whalen, Delaney Line turned in a 4:08.94, while Jadon Rahman, Ben Colli, Trevor Carson, Holden Eagle ran a 3:31.84 for the men.
NOTABLES
- Jamelah Carswell set a personal-best in second place of the women's 100m hurdles with a 14.54 ... Anna Rorrer (3rd), Halle Walcutt (4th), and Anna Baxter (6th) rounded out the Dukes in the race ... Rorrer placed second in the 400m hurdles later in the day crossing in 1:08.61, while Eva Leatherman was close behind in third at 1:06.78.
- Rachel Koonmen PR'd in the women's shot put with a second-place finish behind Moretti, charting a long of 13.51m (44' 4") - just 0.03m away from the top-five list at Duquesne.
- Ezra Johnson-Mills threw a 47.13m (154' 7") in the women's hammer throw, finishing second.
- Ryan Ellison was the men's 110m hurdles runner up with a 14.77.
- First year Joseph Wigginton (9:20.90 - PR) and sophomore Nathaniel Woshner (9:33.16) finished second and third in the men's 3000m.
- Freshmen Caroline Garbe (high jump - 1.58m) and Mia Pierce (discus - 35.28m) both took third in their respective events.
- David Williams claimed bronze in the men's 200m dash charting a 22.08, while Jadon Rahman (50.69) represented the Dukes with a third-place finish in the 400m.
- Freshmen Cameron Bogdan (4:05.12) and Jonah Nizami (4:12.03) crossed the line in third and fourth place in the men's 1500m.
- First years Cydney Blahovec (2:18.55 - 5th) and Reagan Ryen (2:24.75 - 11th) posted early career-best times in the women's 800m ... Christian Cupp added an early career-best discus throw at 30.96m and finished fifth in the men's pole vault at 3.20m (10' 6").
