Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team concluded its 2023-24 season Friday at the International Team Championships (ITC) in Jeffersontown, Ky., at Kingpin Lanes. The Dukes opened with a 4-2 loss to Wichita State. In the elimination bracket, Duquesne earned a 4-0 win over No. 15 Maryland Eastern Shore before falling to No. 5 North Carolina A&T, 4-1.
The Dukes earned the No. 14 seed at the ITC Nationals after a 24-match qualifying round, amassing a grand total of 4,611 pins. In the opening block Duquesne sat eighth with 2,419 pins and was bolstered by five straight games of 200 or better, including a 247 in game seven. The Dukes also registered a 246 in game 11.
Duquesne eclipsed 200 in three games in the second block, with scores of 233 in game 18, 234 in game 20 and a 210 in the final contest of the qualifying round. Thanks to 2,192 pins in the second block, the Dukes finished just 10 pins shy of Saint Xavier for the 13 seed.
Moving into bracket play, Duquesne opened with a 4-2 loss to the Shockers, who advanced to the semifinals in the blue bracket along with Sacred Heart, North Carolina A&T and the Savannah College of Arts and Design. The Dukes earned a 4-0 sweep of the Hawks in a rematch of its epic game in the NCAA Championships before falling to the Aggies to conclude the year.
Duquesne wraps up its 2023-24 season with an overall record of 71-36 (.664), setting a new program standard for wins in a season. Over the last three years, the Dukes have amassed an overall record of 204-106 (.658), winning a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) regular-season championships, earning a pair of at-large bids to the NCAA Championships and playing in the ITC Nationals each of those seasons.
