- The Duquesne University volleyball team returns to Pittsburgh, when it welcomes #23 Dayton for a mid-week match on Tuesday, Oct. 8 while celebrating its annual Pink Out Game.
- The Dukes are coming off a split series at Saint Louis last weekend as it battled in a pair of five-set matches. Duquesne's rally fell short on Friday night before it bounced back and captured a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.
- On Friday, a pair of Dukes finished with double figures on Friday night, led by freshman
Emersen Schrom and graduate student
Elizabeth Drelling. Schrom ended with a team leading 14 kills, three digs, and three blocks while Drelling tallied 11 kills, nine digs, and five total blocks.
- Junior
Carsyn Henschen ended the night with nine successful swings and five total rejections while sophomore
Chloe Wilmot controlled the offense with 24 assists and nine digs. Graduate student
Grace Kristofic posted 16 assists and nine digs on Friday.
- In the bounce back win on Saturday, Duquesne had a quarter of players finish with double digit kills.
Emersen Schrom paced the way with 14 kills and a .433 hitting percentage while
Carsyn Henschen ended with 13 successful swings, five total blocks, and one assist.
- Junior
Ariel Helm recorded her first career kill/block double-double, finishing with 12 kills and 10 blocks on the afternoon. Her 10 blocks are a season-high while falling one short of tying her career-best.

Elizabeth Drelling was the final Duke in double digits, posting 11 kills, six digs, and three total blocks in the win. These four players combined for 50 of the Dukes 60 total kills.

Avery Hobson registered 11 digs, eight kills, and three total blocks while
Chloe Wilmot and
Grace Kristofic each collected double-doubles. Wilmot tallied 28 assists and 12 digs with an ace while Kristofic ended with 20 helpers, 12 digs, and one ace. As a team, Duquesne tied its season-best in protecting the net, posting 14.0 total blocks while tallying 24 block assists
- After battling the Flyers, Duquesne hits the road when it begins its series at Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
Scouting the Flyers – Dayton comes into Tuesday's contest ranked No. 23 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll as they have been ranked in every poll this season. The Flyers are currently on a seven-match win streak, recording five consecutive 3-0 sweeps, most recently a pair of straight set victories at VCU… Led by Tim Horsmon, who has recorded a 389-108 (.778) record in 16 seasons with the Flyers … Horsmon is the all-time winningest coach at Dayton while being 11 wings shy of 400 … Lexie Almodovar leads the Flyers and paces the A-10 in kills per set (4.51) while Alyssa Miller ranks first in the league in total assists (565) and assists per set (11.8).
Everyone Gets a Swing – For the second time this season, the Dukes have four players finish with double digit kills. Duquesne first completed the accomplishment in a 3-2 victory over Eastern Michigan earlier this season before repeating it against Saint Louis on Saturday. The Dukes feature four players with over 100 kills this season, led by
Emersen Schrom. Schrom sits sixth in the conference with 176 total kills while sitting seventh in kills per set (2.93).
Elizabeth Drelling sits second on the team with 168 while tallying 2.80 per set this season.
Carsyn Henschen has collected 130 total swings (2.17 per set) while
Avery Hobson is the final Duke with 109 this season (1.82 per set).
How Bout a Rejection - Junior middle blocker
Ariel Helm continues to control the net for the Dukes as her 1.28 blocks per set leads the conference and her 77.0 total rejections ranks first and 48th in the country. Helm has collected 16 solo blocks this season, which leads the A-10 as she has tallied a solo rejection in five of the last six matches. The Indiana native is off to a hot start and has the potential to pass her career-best, where she posted 92.0 total blocks during her rookie campaign. Helms defensive efforts were honored by the league office as she was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season (9/23).
Celebrating 50 Years – This season marks the 50th anniversary of women's volleyball as it began in the fall of 1974. For the first 12 years, Duquesne played as a club team before elevating the program to the Division I level in 1986. The first coach to lead the then-Duchesses' was Duquesne alum Rob Cisney who coached the first three years of the Dukes being a Division I program. Leading up to this season, Duquesne has put together an all-time record of 700-699 (.500), a Division I record of 515-590 (.466), and an Atlantic 10 record of 208-587. The Dukes won its first-ever Division I contest at Robert Morris on September 10, 1986, with a 3-0 sweep. Duquesne won its first-ever conference contest against Rutgers, when they defeated the Scarlet Knights in straight sets.
