Three Dukes Selected to CSC Academic All-District® Team

Pittsburgh, Pa. – A trio of student-athletes from the Duquesne University volleyball team were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team Tuesday. Garnering the honor for the Dukes were seniors Madison Grimm and Hanna Wilson as well as sophomore Emersen Schrom.

To be honored as a CSC Academic All-District® Team member, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale and compete in 90 percent of an institution's matches or start at least 66 percent of the contests.

Grimm, a native of South Charleston, Ohio, earned her third consecutive CSC Academic All-District® honor while majoring in physician assistant studies and maintaining a 3.83 GPA. She appeared in all 31 matches this season, playing every one of the team's 120 sets. Grimm led the Dukes and ranked sixth in the Atlantic 10 with a career-best 375 total digs, while her 3.13 digs per set ranked eighth in the conference. The senior defensive specialist recorded 19 matches with double-digit digs and led the team in that category on 13 occasions. She posted two matches with 20 or more digs and closed the season with double-digit digs in eight consecutive contests. Grimm also ranked second on the team with 91 total assists, added 12 service aces, and led the Dukes in aces twice during the season. Earlier in the year, Grimm surpassed a significant career milestone by eclipsing 1,000 career digs. She finished her career with 1,372 career digs, ranking seventh in program history

Earning her first CSC Academic All-District® honor with the Dukes is Wilson, a native of Independence, Ohio, who carries a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a member of the physical therapy program. She appeared in 29 matches this season, playing in 112 sets. Wilson finished fourth on the team with 271 total digs, averaging 2.42 per set. She recorded 12 matches with double-digit digs and led the team in digs on four occasions. The Ohio native also produced a career-best 42 service aces, ranking sixth in the conference, while her 0.38 aces per set ranked seventh. Wilson posted five matches with three or more service aces and led the Dukes in aces nine times during the season.

Schrom, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., earned her first CSC Academic All-District® honor as a marketing major with a perfect 4.00 GPA. She appeared in all 31 matches this season, playing every one of the team's 120 sets, while earning a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and the A-10 All-Academic Team. Schrom emerged as one of the nation's and the Atlantic 10's most dangerous offensive weapons, ranking 10th in Division I with 604.5 total points. Her 5.04 points per set ranked 21st nationally, while her 532 kills were the 12th most in the country. She averaged 4.43 kills per set, good for 25th nationally, and added 47 service aces, which ranked fifth in the conference. The Pittsburgh native set a new Duquesne single-season kills record, breaking a mark that had stood for 19 years. She produced 27 matches with double-digit kills, including 10 contests with 20 or more, and led the Dukes in kills on 26 occasions. Schrom also posted a team-high 15 double-doubles and ranked second on the team with 17 matches of double-digit digs. The outside hitter paced the team 14 times in service aces while producing six matches with three or more.

Duquesne is led by Steve Opperman, who guided the Dukes to an 18-13 overall record (.581) and a 9-9 mark (.500) in Atlantic 10 play, earning a berth in the A-10 Tournament semifinals for the first time since the 2021 season. The 18 wins tied for the program's most since 2016, while the nine conference victories matched the highest total since the 2014 campaign. Opperman also became the 29th active NCAA Division I head coach to surpass 500 career wins.
