Morgantown, W.Va. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team competed at the Martha Thorn Invitational this past weekend, hosted by West Virginia. Freshmen
Denisse Arinez Guilarte and
Sofia Lopez-Linares Perez collected victories for the Dukes.
Duquesne battled a handful of power five teams during the invite, including Penn State, Louisville, Maryland, West Virginia, and Western Michigan.
Lopez secured a singles victory after defeating Kate Zink of Penn State, 6-1, 6-0. Lopez and Arinez Guilarte captured a doubles victory for Duquesne, taking down Lola Glantz and Frida Weijerman of Western Michigan, 6-3.
Sophomore
Alexandra O'Brien dropped a close battle with Weijerman of Western Michigan, 4-6, 6-4, 3-10 while Arinez Guilarte fell to Siernna Osborne of Western Michigan, 3-6, 6-3, 6-10. Junior
Jasa Roka dropped a close match with Audrey Smitek of the Broncos, 6-3, 5-7, 6-10 while senior
Kaya Rand fell to Elena Noguero of Louisville in a back-and-forth match 6-1, 4-6, 8-10.
