Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team completed in its second tournament of the 2024-25 season Sunday, finishing 10th at Destination Orlando at AMF Sky Lanes. The Dukes concluded the event with a 7-6 (.538) record and have posted an overall mark of 14-12 (.538) through the first two competitions of the year.
BAKER PLAY
Opening with Baker play Friday in Orlando, Fla., the Dukes finished 2-3, opening with a 985-911 triumph over Bryant before falling to No. 5 Nebraska, 975-948, and UAB, 929-889. Duquesne rebounded to earn a 912-885 victory over Alabama A&M before suffering a 1,088-1,049 setback against No. 12 Mount St. Mary's in the final Baker match of the day. Moving to traditional play Saturday, the Dukes reversed course and finished 3-2, including just its second win in program history against the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Duquesne opened with a 908-859 loss to No. 3 Youngstown State before victories over both Saint Anselm (984-815) and Prairie View A&M (1,012-998). The Dukes fell to No. 23 Delaware State, 958-872, but saved their best for last, upending defending national champion and No. 1 Jacksonville State, 996-945. The only other time Duquesne posted a win over the No. 1 team in the country came in the championship bracket of the Hawk Classic during the 2019-20 season, a 4-1 victory over Vanderbilt.
STEPPING UP
Leading the way for the Dukes in traditional play Saturday was Ulanday, who averaged 217.20 in five games to finish 15th individually. She rolled a 244 in the victory over the Hawks before finishing with a career-high 268 in the win over the Panthers. Ulanday also bolstered Duquesne in its win over Jacksonville State, finishing with a 236. The 268 is tied for eighth among the top traditional games in program history along with Kelsey Hackbart (2016-17), Olivia Farwell (2021-22) and
Brenna Gleim (2023-24). Also assisting the efforts for the Dukes in the victory over the Gamecocks was Baker, who rolled a 246. Baker played in three games of traditional play, averaging 199.67.
CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET
Duquesne earned a pair of wins in the championship bracket Sunday, opening with a 946-904 win over No. 11 Stephen F. Austin in baker total pinfall. Advancing to a best-of-seven baker format, the Dukes earned a 4-1 win over UAB before dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 6 North Carolina A&T. Jacksonville State, which finished 11-2 overall during Destination Orlando, won the championship bracket after a 4-3 win over Arkansas State and a 4-2 victory over Nebraska.
UP NEXT
Duquesne, which concluded Destination Orlando with a total pinfall of 12,435 and an average game of 191.3, returns to action with the first of two Northeast Conference competitions. The Dukes travel to Binghamton, N.Y., Friday, Nov. 15, through Sunday, Nov. 17, to compete at Ripics Carousel Lanes.
