Joella Baker has announced the competition schedule for the inaugural season of the Duquesne University triathlon program. The Dukes have six events on the schedule, including one home meet on September 9.
Duquesne will compete in its first-ever meet on September 3 at Wingate University, the first of three September events. On September 9, the Dukes will be the hosts at Moraine State Park in Butler County, then on September 24, DU will travel to the Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival in Lake Anna, Va.
The Women's Collegiate Triathlon East National Qualifier is set for October 14 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Va. and the collegiate championships will be in Tempe, Ariz. on November 11.
Duquesne wraps up its inaugural season over the weekend of March 2-3 at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge in Clermont, Fla.
Over the last decade, women's triathlon has made significant progress towards becoming a full-fledged NCAA championship sport. In 2022, the sport eclipsed 40 schools sponsoring varsity women's triathlon, meeting one of the NCAA's requirements surrounding sustainability and success at the NCAA varsity level. Only becoming an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, triathlon is already a varsity sport at schools in all three levels of NCAA competition across the nation.
As of March 2023, 42 NCAA schools sponsor women's triathlon. Stretched across all three NCAA divisions and located in 25 states. For more information on NCAA Triathlon visit
