BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Freshman
Kadence Ribbink claimed the individual title to lead the No. 9 Duquesne triathlon team to a runner-up finish at the third annual Duquesne Invitational on Saturday morning at Brady's Run Park.
The 750-meter swim, 11.8-mile bike and 3.1-mile run event featured 90 competitors. Duquesne placed seven in the top 20 and 11 in the top 38. Navy took first in the team standings.
Ribbink crossed the line in 1:02:23, nearly a minute ahead of the field, for her first collegiate victory in just her second NCAA race. She posted the fastest swim of the day (10:37), added a 30:42 bike split, and closed with a race-best 18:46 run.
Fellow freshman
Catherine Staley finished eighth in 1:04:52, followed by sophomore
Rachele Lavagno in 11th (1:05:30). Junior
Robyn Hunt placed 13th (1:06:04) and freshman
Mikele Jopson was 16th (1:06:23) to round out Duquesne's top five.
Staley (11:03), Lavagno (11:04) and Hunt (11:14) all swam top-10 splits. Lavagno led the Dukes on the bike with a 30:00 split, while teammates
Vivien Mattice (30:15) and Hunt (30:17) finished close behind. On the run, Ribbink's 18:46 was 58 seconds faster than the next competitor, while Jopson (20:32) and
Kate Potashnik (20:36) posted the eighth- and ninth-fastest times in the field.

Ella Butterfield (73rd, 1:23:01) also competed.
Duquesne returns to action next Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Robious Landing Triathlon in Virginia.
