Football to Host "Be the Match" Bone Marrow Drive Wednesday

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne University football program will hold its annual "Be the Match" bone marrow registry drive across campus on Wednesday (April 19).

Date: Wednesday, April 19
Time: 10 am - 3 pm
Locations: St. Ann's, Student Union (near Starbucks), Football Locker Room (Rooney Field), Hogan Dining Hall

Since the inception of the event in 2010, the football program, with the assistance of other Duquesne athletic teams, has secured 4,978 registrations and 24 donors. Sophomore football student-athlete Ayden Garnes and former women's soccer student-athlete Bella DiFabbo are two of the most recent donors. Garnes found out over the holidays that he was a match for a 27-year-old woman, whose identity is still unknown at this time, and after a conversation with his family he elected to move forward as a donor traveling to Boston to complete the surgery on January 4.

Over 100 college football programs participate in the 'Get in the Game. Save a Life' program. Duquesne, now in its 14th year of hosting a drive, helped add more members to the Be The Match registry than any other program in the country in 2017 and '18. The Dukes have also been honored at the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Convention by the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation for adding the most donors to the registry.
