SOMERSET, N.J. – Duquesne University wide receiver
Abdul Janneh (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Janneh hauled in eight receptions for 121 and two touchdowns in the Dukes' 31-14 loss at Youngstown State Saturday. He opened the season with three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in Duquesne's week zero loss at Florida State.
The Hanover native gave Duquesne the lead less than two minutes into their contest at Youngstown State when he beat his man deep over the middle of the field and was wide open for a 45-yard touchdown reception. He later hauled in a 16-yard touchdown on a highly-contested throw that sliced Duquesne's deficit to 17-14 with 9:35 to play in the third quarter.
Janneh is the first Duquesne player to earn NEC Offensive Player of the Week honors since running back
Billy Lucas claimed the honor on Nov. 8, 2021. He is also the first Duquesne wide receiver since
Cyrus Holder on March 22, 2021 to earn the laurel.
Janneh is tied for the FCS lead with three receiving touchdowns. His eight receptions at Youngstown State were the most by a Duquesne receiver since Holder made eight catches in the Spring 2021 NEC Championship Game versus Sacred Heart.
In addition to Janneh, safety
CJ Barnes was named an NEC Prime Performer for his efforts at Youngstown State. He led the Dukes with 10 tackles (six solo) in the loss.
Janneh, Barnes and the rest of the Dukes will return to The Bluff on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they welcome Thomas More (Ky.) to Arthur J. Rooney Field for the team's home opener. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
