PREVIEW: Dukes at George Washington

DU plays last of three-straight road games Saturday afternoon

No. 24 Duquesne (6-1-2, 1-0-1) completes a stretch of three-straight road games when it returns to Atlantic 10 play to face George Washington (5-3-2, 1-1) in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+).

DU, which set a new school record for most games without a loss to open a season (eight), is coming off a 1-0 defeat at No. 25 Akron on Wednesday. The Dukes, who moved into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 for the first time since November of 2005 on Sept. 20, are ranked for the second-straight week.

The Dukes, who are 3-1-2 on the road, have already exceeded last year's road win total (2-7-1). GW, which won, 3-0, at James Madison on Wednesday, is 4-1-1 at home with a 1-0 A-10 win over Davidson.

Duquesne, which has surrendered four goals on the season (tied for first in the A-10 with Loyola Chicago), has posted five shutouts in nine games, while GW has scored 21 goals in eight games. The Colonials' goal total ranks third among A-10 teams.

DU returns home to take on Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+).

THE SERIES VS. GW
  • Duquesne leads the series 12-9-1.
  • In games played in Washington, D.C., GW leads 6-4-1.
  • This is the first time the two will meet in the nation's capital since a 1-0 GW win in 2017. The Colonials have won the past three in D.C., with DU's last road series win coming on Oct. 30, 2005 (4-0).
  • DU head coach Chase Brooks is 4-1 vs. George Washington while at Duquesne with all four wins coming at home. The lone loss was at GW in 2017.
  • Duquesne won the last meeting last year by a 3-1 score on Rooney Field. Logan Muck, Ryan Goodhew and Zach Mowka scored for the Dukes who rallied from an early 1-0 deficit.
  • A total of 12 yellow cards (six for either team) were handed out in last year's game.

LAST GAME
  • Dyson Clapier's goal in the 53rd minute was the difference as No. 25 Akron held off No. 24 Duquesne (6-1-2) in a nonconference matchup at Akron on Wednesday night.
  • The loss was the first for the Dukes who set a school record for games without a loss (eight) to open the season.
  • Ask Ekeland led DU with a pair of shots.
  • Domenic Nascimben had four saves for the Dukes.

TEAM NOTES
  • Duquesne entered the Untied Soccer Coaches Top 25 for the first time since November of 2005 on Sept. 20. The Dukes moved up from No. 25 to No. 24 this week.

  • Duquesne's three-straight road wins to start the season were one shy of the school record for consecutive road victories (accomplished three times). DU was 2-7-1 on the road last season.
  • DU is undefeated in its past 11 home games (10-0-1, 3-0 this year). The last home loss occurred during the pandemic-related spring season on Mar. 27, 2021 (2-0 to St. Bonaventure).

  • DU (10-7-2 last year) is looking to post back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since 2005 & 2006.
