Logan Muck (33'),
Ryan Goodhew (49') and
Zach Mowka (71') found the back of the net as Duquesne (5-2, 1-0) erased an early 1-0 deficit to post a 3-1 Atlantic 10-openingĀ win over George Washington (2-4-1, 0-1) Saturday night on Rooney Field.
The win was DU's fourth without a loss at home this season.
Ryan Landry had a pair of assists for the Dukes, who have now scored 17 goals in their past six games.
Muck, DU's first sub of the first half, gathered a Landry shot off the crossbar and poked it by GW's Justin Grady to tie it in the 33rd minute and Goodhew buried a shot in the upper 90 to give the Dukes the lead for good.
The win was DU's eighth in a row at home over the Colonials, who have not won on Rooney Field since 1998.
Domenic Nascimben had a pair of saves in net for Duquesne, who finished with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Duquesne heads to East Lansing, Mich. for a non-conference matchup with Michigan State (3-3-1) on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. (B1G+).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- GW's Demi Amigun scored on the first shot on goal by either team in the 15th minute.
- Ryan Goodhew registered DU's first SOG with a header on target one minute later.
- Goodhew and GW's Tom Cooklin were both assessed yellow cards after getting tangled up in the Colonials end in the 17th minute.
- Duquesne picked it up considerably following the double cards.
- Zach Mowka had an opportunity from left of the GW net in the 23rd minute.
- Maxi Hopfer made a long run down the left side got a tight-angle shot on goal three minutes later.
- Hopfer found Nate Dragisich on a cross at the near post, but Dragisich's chip sailed high.
- Ryan Landry lined a shot off the crossbar from straight on, but Ryan Muck calmly chested the ball down to his foot and converted to make it 1-1 in the 33rd minute. It was the second goal of the season for Muck who entered the game nine minutes prior.
- Jayden Da split a pair of Colonial defenders and nearly go the ball to Muck, but the pass was broken up, setting up a DU corner just before the half.
- DU had a 6-4 shot advantage in the first half.
- GW had four yellow cards in the opening 45 minutes.
- Goodhew gave the Dukes a 2-1 lead on a shot to the upper right 90 in the 49th minute. Landry started the play with a cross that caromed past Dragisich, on to Muck. GW got a foot on the ball before Goodhew swooped in to find the back of the net.
- Zach Mowka made it 3-1 when he found himself all alone in front of the GW goal in the 71st minute. Landry played the ball to Mowka who took the pass without a defender in sight.
- Mowka nearly had a second goal in the 85th minute, but had his effort blocked.
- A total of 12 yellow cards (six for either team) were handed out.
