PREVIEW: Lacrosse at Davidson; Senior Day vs. La Salle

Dukes travel to North Carolina Friday, before returning home for Senior Day on Sunday

The Duquesne lacrosse team will travel to North Carolina to take on Davidson on Friday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m., before returning home to celebrate Senior Day on Sunday April 10 at 2 p.m. against La Salle.
 
Senior Day festivities on Sunday will begin approximately an hour ahead the opening draw control. Both matches will broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
THE SERIES vs. DAVIDSON
Duquesne leads the all-time series with eight wins in the 13 meetings. The two teams met several times prior to Davidson joining the Atlantic 10 ahead of the 2015 season. The Dukes and Wildcats are meeting for the first time since a 20-16 Duquesne win at Davidson in 2019.
 
The Dukes have won three of the five games against Davidson since 2015 and are winners of seven of the last 10 meetings.
 
THE SERIES vs. LA SALLE
The Explorers and Dukes have met almost every year since 1998. Duquesne leads the all-time series 15-8, but each team has won five of the last 10 meetings. The Dukes are 8-3 all-time versus La Salle at Rooney Field.
 
The Dukes and Explorers met twice in 2021, with each team defending their home field. Duquesne scored a 19-17 win at Rooney Field, while La Salle notched a 20-14 win in Philadelphia in the season finale.
 
SCOUTING THE DUKES
  • Ciara Curtis was the team's top-offensive player this past weekend at Richmond and VCU. She scored four goals at Richmond, before netting three more at VCU on Sunday.
  • Curtis, who entered the weekend with one career-point, scored for the first time in her collegiate career at Richmond. She also totaled five draw controls and a caused turnover on the weekend.
  • Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw leads the team with 29 points and is tied for the team-lead with 22 goals.
  • The two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week has dished out a team-high seven assists and also ranks third on the team with 23 draw controls.
  • Sam King is tied for the team lead with 22 goals and slots second on the Dukes with 26 points.
  • King has scored at least one goal in all 11 games this season.
  • King has not only been the team's most accurate shooter, but one of the best in the nation. She currently ranks fourth in the NCAA with a .647 shooting percentage.
  • Tina St. Clair ranks third on the team with 21 goals this season. She is converting 53 percent of her free-position tries, which ranks third in the A-10.
  • St. Clair matched a career-high with five goals in games versus Butler and UMass this season.
  • Alana Piano leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks ninth in Division I with 2.18 caused turnovers per game.
  • The team captain also leads the league and slots 11th nationally with 3.00 ground balls per game.
  • Piano has also chipped in 15 goals on the season to rank fourth on the Dukes.
  • Corinne Desrosiers is in her fourth season at the helm of the Duquesne program.
  • The Dukes were picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
  • Davidson is 9-2 this season and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
  • Both of the Wildcats' losses came on the road at No. 8 Duke and at Saint Joseph's.
  • Davidson ranks among the top-three in the Atlantic 10 in most statistical categories, including free-position percentage. The Wildcats lead the A-10 and rank fourth nationally with a .538 free-position shooting percentage.
  • Erin Cooke leads the A-10 with 48 points this season. Her 26 assists leads the league and slots her sixth in Division I.
  • Grace Fahey leads the team and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 with 32 goals. She slots just behind Duquesne's Sam King and fifth in the country with a .640 shooting percentage.
  • Goalie Amanda Monahan ranks second in the A-10 and 16 in the NCAA with a 9.96 goals against average. Her .495 save percentage is fourth in the league and 14th in Division I this season.
  • Kim Wayne has been the head coach of the Wildcats since the 2009 season.
  • The Spiders were picked to finish fourth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • La Salle enters the weekend at 3-9 overall and 1-3 in A-10 play. The Explorers will take on St. Bonaventure on Friday ahead of their game at Duquesne.
  • Emily Johnston leads the team and ranks fifth in the A-10 with 27 goals. Her 34 points slots her 10th in the A-10.
  • She also leads the team and ranks fifth in the league with 1.42 caused turnovers and is fourth with 2.33 ground balls per game.
  • Kelli McGroaty and Julia Dellaratta have both seen time in net for the Explorers. Entering the weekend, McGroaty ranked ninth in the A-10 with 65 saves, while Dellaratta slotted right behind her in 10th with 61 saves.
  • La Salle notably leads the A-10 and sits third in Division I with 7.17 fouls per game.
  • Katie Rhodes Abbott is in her second season as head coach at La Salle. She previously spent five seasons as the top assistant at Colgate.
  • La Salle was picked to finish seventh in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
NEXT UP
Duquesne will play its home-finale on Thursday, April 14 versus George Mason around 4 p.m. at Rooney Field. The team will then travel to the nation's capital to take on George Washington on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
