Women's Track & Field Competes at UVA Challenge; RMU Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. and MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Duquesne women's track and field team sent athletes to both the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia and the Robert Morris Invitational this past weekend.
 
In Charlottesville, Bethany Evankovich turned in a season's-best time in the 800-meter run with a posted time of 57.52 seconds.
 
The Dukes flexed their muscle in the jumps at the Robert Morris Inviational. Sadie Wetzel won the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters, while Caroline Billone won the triple jump with a mark of 11.24 meters.
 
Jamelah Carswell claimed second overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of one minute, 5.98 seconds, while Anna Baxter took fourth at one minute, 11.29 seconds. Carswell also took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.62 meters.
 
Haley Hamilton and Mary Thornton finished in the top-three of the 1,500-meter run. Hamilton took second at four minutes, 46.03 seconds, while Thornton paced her at four minutes, 50.51 seconds.
 
Kaylin Cousin, Amy Allen and Faith Mucci each finished in the top-six in the 200-meter dash. Cousin took third at 25.95 seconds, while Allen (25.95) and Mucci (26.48) took fourth and sixth place, respectively. 
 
Cousin and Allen also finished in the top-three of the 400 meters. Cousin took second with a time of 57.46 seconds, while Allen took third at 57.93 seconds.
 
Claire Belton and Hannah Dieterle finished in third and fourth place in the 5,000-meter run. Belton crossed the final line at 18 minutes, 55.54 seconds, while Dieterle came in right behind her at 19 minutes, 0.26 seconds.
 
In the field, Amber McCool took second in the javelin throw with a mark of 37.26 meters. Rachel Koonmen turned in a third-place effort in the shot put with a mark of 12.31 meters.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mucci, Angela Valotta, Laura Ehrenberger and Mara Whalen took second with a posted time of four minutes, 4.61 seconds.
 
The Dukes will compete in their final tune-up prior to the Atlantic 10 Championships when they travel to the annual Penn Relays starting on Wednesday, April 27.
