PREVIEW: Lacrosse vs. Butler

Dukes partnering with the HEADstrong Foundation Sunday

The Duquesne lacrosse team will host Butler on Rooney Field on Sunday, March 20 at 12 p.m. in the team's final tune up before Atlantic 10 play.

The Dukes are partnering with the HEADstrong Foundation for the contest. Members of the team will be styling their hair in efforts to raise funds to improve the lives of those affected by cancer as part of the Game Hair Havoc program.

 
The match against the Bulldogs will broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
THE SERIES
The Dukes and Bulldogs are meeting for the second time. Duquesne defeated Butler 16-8 in Indianapolis in the first game between the two schools during the 2019 season.
 
SCOUTING THE DUKES
  • Sam King leads the team with 15 goals for the Dukes. She found the back of the net a season-high four times versus both Youngstown State and Ohio State.
  • Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw leads the team with four assists and has scored 11 goals. She also has a team-high 15 draw controls.
  • Tina St. Clair has also scored 11 goals for the Dukes.
  • Alana Piano leads the team with 11 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls.
  • Piano has also chipped in eight goals on the season to slot fourth on the Dukes.
  • Goalie Mady Piersielak made 17 saves in the team's loss to Ohio State. It was just four off of the Duquesne single-game record.
  • Corinne Desrosiers is in her fourth season at the helm of the Duquesne program.
  • The Dukes were picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • Duquesne is coming off of a 4-5 campaign in 2021.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler is 4-2 overall this season.
  • The Bulldogs are on a three-game winning-streak with wins over Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, and Detroit Mercy.
  • The Dukes and Bulldogs have one common opponent - Kent State.
  • Butler beat Kent State 11-10 on Feb. 12, while Duquesne earned a 15-4 win over the Golden Flashes on Feb. 20.
  • Campbell Connors leads the team with 16 goals.
  • Greer Bireley has dished out a team-best 12 assists.
  • Leah Rubino paces the Bulldogs with 25 draw controls.
  • Goalie Aleigh Monroe has started all six games and is allowing 11.20 goals per game.
  • Cecil Pilson is in his seventh season as head coach.
  • He is the only coach in program history. He was hired in 2015 and has led the Bulldogs since the 2017 inaugural season.

Duquesne will host open Atlantic 10 play on Friday, March 25 when it hosts Saint Joseph's. The contest will begin at 4 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN+.
