PREVIEW: Women's Basketball vs. Fordham

Dukes and Rams have not met since 2020 A-10 Championship Quarterfinals

Duquesne is 10-2 against teams from the state of New York since the start of the 2019-20 season. The Dukes have won all three games against teams from the Empire State - Canisius, Siena and St. Bonaventure - this season.

THE SERIES - vs. FORDHAM
  • The Dukes and Rams will meet for the first time since the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinal round - a 54-47 Fordham victory.
  • The two programs have met annually since 1996 with the exception of last season. The game was postponed and eventually canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • Duquesne holds a commanding lead in the all-time series with 22 wins in 32 meetings.
  • Fordham has enjoyed most of the success in recent history, winning five of the past six games between the two schools.
  • This matchup will be the first time since 2019 that the Dukes will host the Rams on their home court.
  • The 2020 regular-season contest was played at Robert Morris due to the construction of the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
  • That 2019 matchup at the Palumbo Center featured the most lop-sided game in series history - a 42-point Fordham win.

LAST MEETING - March 6, 2020
  • Sixth-seed Duquesne fell to third-seed Fordham, 54-47 in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship.
  • Paige Cannon and Amanda Kalin each posted 13 points, while Laia Sole added nine.
  • Libby Bazelak stuffed the stat sheet with six points, 11 rebounds, five assists and a block.2020 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Bre Cavanaugh led the Rams with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
  • Fordham sits third in the A-10 standings and are winners of six of its last seven.
  • The Rams rank third in the league and 45th in Division I in scoring defense (57.0 ppg.). They also rank third in turnovers per game (13.8), which slots 47th nationally.
  • Although Fordham ranks second in the A-10 with a 74.5 free-throw percentage, it ranks last in the league with just 239 attempts this season.
  • The Rams did not play a mid-week game and return to the hardwood following a 62-54 win last Saturday against St. Bonaventure.
  • Anna DeWolfe, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, dropped her 13th 20-point of the season with 20 points while playing all 40 minutes.
  • The 2021 A-10 Player of the Year leads the A-10 and ranks 25th in Division I with 19.9 ppg.
  • She also ranks seventh in the league with a 41.6 field goal percentage.
  • Asiah Dingle added 14 points in the win over the Bonnies.
  • She is second on the Rams and 13th in the A-10 with 13.8 ppg.
  • Dingle also slots fourth in the league with 2.20 steals per game.

LAST TIME OUT
  • A late run by Dayton allowed it to rally past the Dukes 60-54 Wednesday night at the UD Arena.
  • Duquesne went ahead 54-52 with on a Precious Johnson basket with 3:43 to play in the contest, but the Flyers closed out the game with eight-straight points to snap Duquesne's three-game winning streak.Duquesne was led by a game-high 17 points from Tess Myers. Myers was 5-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range.
  • The Flyers out-rebounded the Dukes 47 to 24, including a 14-2 advantage on the offensive glass.
  • Dayton converted all 15 second-chance points in the contest.
  • The plus-23 rebound margin was the highest allowed by a Dan Burt-coached team. The previous mark was plus-20 against UConn in the 2016 NCAA Tournament Second Round.
  • There were 10 lead changes and six tie scores. Duquesne led for over 21 minutes of game-time, while Dayton led for just over 14 minutes.

SHOOTER'S SHOWDOWN
  • This game will feature two of the best three-point shooters in the Atlantic 10 in Duquesne's Tess Myers and Fordham's Anna DeWolfe.
  • Myers leads the A-10 and ranks seventh in Division I with 3.14 three-point field goals made per game. Her 66 three pointers ranks fifth in the NCAA and leads the A-10.
  • She also slots second in the A-10 with a 40.7 three-point field goal percentage.
  • DeWolfe ranks third in the A-10 with 2.55 three pointers per game.
  • She slots fifth at 32.9 percent from three-point range and is second only to Myers (162) with 155 three-point attempts.
