TOWSON, Md. - Duquesne went 11-2 on its way to finishing third in the 14-team James Brown Invitational at AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Md. over the weekend.
Freshman
Ranelle Ulanday took top individual honors with an average of 222.20 in Saturday's traditional round.
Duquesne topped the 1,000-pin mark twice in going 4-1 in Friday's baker matches. The Dukes defeated #6 North Carolina A&T, 923-895, in their opening match, and followed with wins over Felician (924-908) and #14 Delaware State (1014-928). DU topped the 1,000-pin mark again in a 1012-953 win over Fayetteville State. DU's lone Friday defeat came by three pins to Coppin State (930-933) in the final match of the day.
DU's 4,803 total (192.1) placed the Dukes third after day one.
Duquesne was outstanding in the traditional round, posting 1000+ pin totals in its final four matches.
DU opened with a 992-895 win over #16 Maryland Eastern Shore then defeated Mt. Aloysius (1117-779), #25 Kutztown (1039-774), St. Francis Brooklyn (1037-998) and Chestnut Hill (1105-88) in succession.
Ulanday had her best outing of the season with games of 179, 258, 193, 216 and 265 on her way to a team-high 1,111 pin total and first-place 222.20 average.
Olivia Farwell totaled 1,071 with a high game of 268 vs. St. Francis Brooklyn to finish fifth at 214.20.
Kiearra Saldi knocked down 1,054 pins with a top game of 238 vs. Maryland Eastern Shore in finishing ninth (209.60).
Shannon Small finished at 1,048 (11th at 209.60) and
Morgan Brookover's 1,006 pins placed her 18th (201.20).
DU, by virtue of its two-day 10,093 pin total, earned a No. 3 seed entering Sunday's championship round.
Duquesne opened final day play with a 4-1 win over 10th-ranked Mount St. Mary's before falling to #14 Delaware State in a seven-game match. The Dukes rallied to take the final three games in defeating #18 Morgan State 4-1.
