SOMERSET, N.J. – Duquesne University quarterback
Darius Perrantes (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Francis) and kicker
Brian Bruzdewicz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) each garnered Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week honors announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Perrantes was tabbed the NEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Bruzdewicz earned NEC Special Teams Player of the Week laurels.
Perrantes came off the bench and led the Dukes to a 30-6 road victory at Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon. He threw for 260 yards on 17 of 24 attempts with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Perrantes established season highs in yards, completions and touchdowns in the victory. Last season, he ranked second in the NEC in passing yards per game, passing touchdowns, completions per game and pass efficiency.
It is the third NEC Offensive Player of the Week honor of Perrantes' career. He earned the award twice last season, including following the Dukes upset win over Ohio University.
Bruzdewicz garnered NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career following his standout performance in the team's win over CCSU.
Bruzdewicz was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, including a career-long 40-yard kick. He also booted through all three of his extra point tries. His 20-yard field goal with less than nine minutes left in the game made the score 16-6 and gave the Dukes a two-possession lead.
It is the first weekly NEC honor for Bruzdewicz this season. He earned the award twice last season, and like Perrantes, garnered the laurel following Duquesne's upset win over Ohio U.
In addition to Perrantes and Bruzdewicz, wide receiver
Dwayne Menders, Jr. was named a NEC Prime Performer for his efforts in win over CCSU. The Marist grad transfer led the Dukes with eight receptions for 118 yards.
Perrantes, Bruzdewicz and the rest of the Dukes return to Rooney Field on Saturday, Oct. 29 to take on LIU for another NEC contest. Kick-off from The Bluff is set for noon.
