Box Score PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 7-0 victory over Saint Francis U on Friday afternoon at Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh. It was the second consecutive shutout triumph for the Dukes.
Doubles
Starting up 1-0 as the Red Flash only fielded five players, the Dukes needed just one victory to secure the doubles point.
Natasha Novak and Ana Utrilla-Benito fell down 5-4, but were able to rally and provide a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point.
Margot Pessy and
Meredith Lee registered a 7-6(4) win to finish the doubles slate.
Singles
Pessy was first off the court in singles, giving the Dukes a 6-4, 6-1 win at the third flight.
Ellen Shanahan was then able to clinch the victory by winning 6-1, 6-3. Novak finished her match at the No. 1 singles flight 7-5, 6-2.
"Today was a great arvo of matches, and everyone was ready to go back to campus and celebrate with a quick barbie." said Duquesne freshman

Daniela Latoni secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the sixth singles flight, before Utrilla-Benito completed the days slate of matches with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
"Today was a solid victory for the team," said Duquesne Director of Tennis
Vanessa Steiner. "Although Saint Francis was down a few players, we knew they would come in and give us a tough battle throughout the lineup. We were able to sustain a high level of intensity and effort throughout the entire day."
