Dukes Finish Strong at NEC Meet #2

Clinch at least third in dominating weekend

The 17th-ranked Dukes clinched at least a third place NEC Meet #2 finish by going 7-2 over the weekend at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, N.J.

The 7-2 performance upped DU's NEC Meet #2 record to 13-5 with one match remaining.

Duquesne played #21 Sacred Heart, #7 Mount St. Mary's and Wagner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.

DU dropped its traditional (981-1034) and baker matches (969-1045) to SHU on Friday, before rallying to take the best-of-seven baker match 4.5-2.5. Kiearra Saldi led DU in the traditional match with a team-high 246.

The Dukes would not taste defeat for the remainder of the weekend in sweeping #7 Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and Wagner on Sunday by 3-0 scores.

Saldi and Allison Hresko rolled a 255 and 242 respectively in leading the Dukes to a dominating 1030-884 win over The Mount in the traditional match. DU followed with a 945-911 win in the baker round. In the best-of-seven baker, DU took the first two games, dropped two, then put it away by taking the final two games 225-176 and 276-180.

DU kept the momentum going into Sunday vs. Wagner. Duquesne led by a 213 from Hresko, a 209 from Saldi and a pair of 192s from Jessica Sacks and Shannon Small, took the traditional match 962-769. The Dukes cruised in the baker round 963-741, before taking the best-of-seven 4-1.

Saldi currently stands atop the individual standings with a 220.17 average through six. Hresko is 7th with a 201.5.

DU will conclude NEC Meet #2 when it faces Saint Francis U at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, Pa. on March 6. The Dukes will remain in Altoona for the Red Flash Shootout on March 7.
