PITTSBURGH & ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Duquesne women's tennis team split up and competed at both the ITA Atlantic Regionals and matches at nearby Carnegie Mellon last week.
In singles play,
Ana Utrilla Benito opened play with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Sylvia Eklund of the U.S. Naval Academy. In the round of 32, Ultrilla Benito posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stella Ribaudo of Navy to advance to the regional semi-final. Unfortunately, her run ended with a 6-4, 6-2 setback against JoJo Bach of Delaware, leaving her one match shy of qualifying for the Super Regionals in Norfolk, Va.

In doubles play, the tandem of
Ana Utrilla Benito and
Margot Pessy opened up the ITA Regionals with a 6-3 win in the round of 32 on day one. The duo was unable to move on any further after falling in the round of 16, 6-3.

Priyanka Mitta led the way for the Dukes at Carnegie Mellon. She went undefeated in four matches, including a pair of singles wins. Mitta defeated both Kavya Singh and Nathalia Valencia of West Liberty in singles play. She took down Singh on Friday in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) before taking down Valencia 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-0) on Saturday.

Mitta teamed up with
Natasha Novak to win both of her doubles matches. The duo dominated Singh and Ishika Agarwal of West Liberty, 8-0, and defeated Evelina Martirosyan and Jaqueline Pena-Aceve of WLU 8-5 on Saturday.

The Dukes will conclude the fall portion of their schedule on Oct. 15 when they travel to Ohio for the Cleveland State Invitational.
