PITTSBURGH – Junior bowler
Olivia Farwell (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) was named Second Team All-American by the National Tenpin Coaches Association it was announced today. It is the third consecutive year Farwell has earned All-American honors, putting her in the company of women's basketball player Korie Hlede (1995, '96, '97, '98), men's basketball all-time greats Dick Ricketts (1953, '54, '55) and Sihugo Green (1954, '55, '56) and football player Christian Kuntz (2013, '15, '16) as the only three-time All-Americans in school history.
Farwell and Hlede - the lone four-time All-American in school history (honorable mention all four years) - are the only Duquesne student-athletes to earn All-American honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior.
Farwell was named honorable mention by the NTCA in 2017-18, was a second team pick last year.
The 2019-20 NTCA All-American Team consists of three five-woman teams and 10 honorable mention selections.
Farwell, who helped the fourth-year Duquesne program to a No. 8 final ranking in the
NTCA Top 25, finished sixth nationally in Player Composite Performance Index at 96.7 percent. The PCPI is a metric that combines identified categories "percentage of competitors that a bowler has outperformed" within a number of categories. The two-time Northeast Conference Bowler of the Week ranked among the Top 5 in seven categories including traditional frame average (5th at 20.89), baker frame average (5th at 20.82), strike percentage (5th at 53.6%) and first ball average (3rd at 9.19).
"It's amazing what Liv accomplished, considering she was dealing with a significant elbow injury in the fall," said Duquesne head coach
Jody Fetterhoff. "She adapted and pushed through the fall and worked really hard with our athletic training and strength and conditioning staffs over winter break to get back to where she was before the injury. When she finally got her strength back, she just went off, finishing first in our last three tournaments. This honor will definitely mean more to her considering all she went through. I'm so glad she was able to get the recognition she deserves."
Farwell, who ranked fourth nationally in player tournament average differential at +26.2 (the difference between the player's average vs. the field average for events the player participated in) and fifth in tournament scoring average at 202.4, was the individual champion at the Bud Whitman Memorial, American Heartland IV (USBC), James Brown Invitational and Hawk Flight Invite.
Duquesne concluded its abbreviated season with a 65-23 record. The Dukes were ranked sixth in the
NCAA Bowling Rankings and seventh in the
NCAA Bowling RPI.
