TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced its All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes for the 2018-19 academic year. Both the Duquesne men's and women's tennis teams earned All-Academic recognition while nine individual Dukes collected Scholar-Athlete laurels.
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher while ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria:Â 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).Â
For the Duquesne women,
Tyra Abdalla (Scranton, Pa. / Abington Heights),
Meredith Lee (Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts / Wingate),
Priyanka Mitta (Mobile, Ala. / Fairhope),
Margot Pessy (Normandy, France / Universite de Rouen Normandie) and
Laurel Shymansky (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) all garnered Scholar-Athlete honors while
Drew Akins (Johns Creek, Ga. / Johns Creek),
Chris Corrao (King City, Ontario / Bill Crothers Secondary School),
Jared Isaacs (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) and
Dominic Lea (Repton, England / Cambridgeshire / North Florida) were named Scholar-Athletes on the men's side for the Dukes.
