ORLANDO, Fla. - The Duquesne women's tennis team opened the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 triumph over St. Bonaventure in a first round matchup on Wednesday morning at the USTA National Campus. The No. 4 seed Dukes extend their winning streak to eight matches, advancing to tomorrow's quarterfinal round against No. 5 seed Davidson at 6 p.m. ET.
On Wednesday, the Dukes claimed the doubles point with a win first by
Laurel Shymansky and
Maddy Adams by a score of 6-1 followed by a 6-3 victory by
Julianne Herman and
Meredith Lee at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play,
Aishwarya Kona was off the court first, winning in straight sets at No. 5 before Shymansky earned a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 slot. Herman captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles to clinch the victory for the Dukes.
Duquesne has now made six straight appearances in the A-10 quarterfinals. The Dukes topped Davidson for the first time in program history earlier this season by a score of 4-3.
