Preview: @DuqLax vs. Detroit Mercy

GAME NOTES
  • The Dukes (3-0) host Detroit Mercy (1-3) out of the Southern Conference in a non-conference matchup on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
  • Duquesne is coming off a 17-2 victory over Saint Francis U on Wednesday evening.
  • The two goals were the fewest allowed by the Dukes since a 19-2 win over the Red Flash on March 11, 2015.
  • The Dukes are seeking their second 4-0 start in program history and first since 1999.
  • Duquesne has outscored its opponents 55-19 on the season and outshot its competition 148-43 including a 106-30 advantage in shots on goal.
THE SERIES
  • Duquesne is 7-0 all-time against the Titans 
  • The series dates back to the 2009 season. 
  • The Dukes are 3-0 all-time in Pittsburgh vs. Detroit Mercy.  
THE LAST MEETING
  • Duquesne netted 19 goals paced by five scores by senior attacker Jill Vacanti.
  • With the score knotted at 7-7 with 9:34 to play in the first half, the Dukes closed the half by scoring six of the next seven goals, inlcuding a pair by Carlee Braverman. This gave Duquesne a 13-8 halftime lead.
  • The Titans opened the second half with a goal before DU answered with three straight goals, two coming from Vacanti, to give the Dukes their largest lead of the game at 16-9.
  • Duquesne held that seven-goal advantage at 18-11 with just over eight minutes to play, before the Titans responded with four consecutive goals to shrink the deficit to 18-15 at the 1:42 mark of the second half.
  • Junior attacker Megan Buettner's fourth goal of the game with just over a minute remaining sealed the four-goal victory for the Dukes.
  • Buettner recorded four goals and three ground balls for Duquesne while Braverman added a hat trick with three draw controls.
  • Sarah Kollhoff chipped in two goals and an assist for DU.
  • Maddie Hart recorded 10 draw controls for the Dukes.
  • Duquesne held a 38-25 shooting edge and advantages of 21-14 in draw controls and 20-17 in ground balls.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
  • The Titans come in with a 1-3 record with their lone win coming against Butler by a score of 17-13.
  • Detroit Mercy has also faced Ohio State, Marquette and Cincinnati.
  • Senior Lexie Kinmond paces the Titans with 15 points on the year including eight goals. She had a pair of goals and four assists in the win over Butler.
  • Detroit Mercy finished 10-8 last season with a 4-1 record in SoCon play.
NEXT UP
  • The Dukes make the short trip out the Parkway West to take on Robert Morris on Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. ET.
  • Duquesne will then return home to host Louisville on Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m. ET.
