Preview: @DuqLax at Butler

GAME NOTES
  • The Dukes (1-0) hit the road for the first time in 2019 to take on Butler (0-0) on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. ET at Varsity Field in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will stream live on Facebook.
  • Duquesne enters with a 1-0 record following a 22-9 victory over Longwood in the season opener on Sunday afternoon. It was the first victory with the Dukes for first-year head coach Corinne Desrosiers.
  • Sophomore midfielder Michaela Connolly (Sykesville, Md. / Century) was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after recording a career-high six points in the triumph over the Lancers. She notched her first career hat trick on three shot attempts to go with three assists and a team-high six ground balls.
  • Junior midfielder Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md. / Century) netted a game- and career-high five goals in the win to go with six draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Senior attacker Megan Buettner (Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley) found the back of the cage four times for the Dukes, as well.
  • Desrosiers is in her first year with the Dukes after serving four seasons as the head coach at Florida Tech. She was named the first head coach in program history at Florida Tech in 2013 and quickly turned the Panthers into a national contender, helping FIT to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. 
  • Hart returns for Duquesne after setting a single-season program record with 80 draw controls last season. She is also the Dukes' leading returning goal scorer (24 goals last year). 
THE SERIES
  • This is the first meeting between Duquesne and Butler
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler opens the season against the Dukes after a 1-16 finish in 2018 including an 0-9 mark in Big East play.
  • This is the Bulldogs' third year as a varsity program under head coach Cecil Pilson.
  • Butler's two top goal scorers return in Ashley Guerra and Haley Hallenbeck, each netting 21 goals in 2018.
NEXT UP
  • Duquesne returns home for a trio of contests as the Dukes will host 10th-ranked Penn State (Feb. 20), Saint Francis U (Feb. 27) and Detroit Mercy (March 3).
