Carry Named Third Team Preseason All A-10

Dukes picked eighth in preseason conference poll

BROOKLYN, NY – Duquesne sophomore guard Sincere Carry, a member of the 2018-19 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, was named preseason third team All-Atlantic 10 in the annual poll of conference coaches and media released today. The the announcement was made as part of the league's annual media day at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Carry (12.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg., 5.8 apg., 2.4 spg.), who became the fifth freshman in A-10 history to lead the league in assists last year, was one of just four sophomores named to the conference's first through third teams.

Duquesne, which returns three starters from last year's 19-13 team, was picked to finish eighth in the preseason team poll. It is the highest the Dukes have been picked since 2010-11, when DU - also picked eighth - ended up tied for fourth.

VCU, Davidson and Dayton were picked to finish first, second and third in a mirror of last year's regular season final standings. VCU, which went 26-8 last season, received 19 of a possible 28 first place votes.

Dayton was followed by Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and Richmond.
 
Last year's A-10 Champion, Saint Louis, was picked one spot ahead of the Dukes.

George Mason, La Salle, Massachusetts, George Washington, Saint Joseph's and Fordham were picked ninth through fourteenth.

All 14 teams will advance to the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship March 11-15 at Barclays Center, with the top four finishers receiving byes to the quarterfinal.

The Dukes, who were picked to finish eleventh in last year's A-10 preseason poll, tied the school record for conference wins (10) in finishing tied for sixth. DU's 19 wins in 2019 were its most since 2011.

Duquesne has exceeded its preseason pick in each of its two seasons under head coach Keith Dambrot.

The Dukes will take on West Virginia in a charity exhibition game at WVU Coliseum on Nov. 1. The game, set for a 7:00 p.m. tip on AT&T SportsNet, will benefit the Dayton Oregon District Tragedy Fund.
 
DU opens the regular season against Princeton on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at PPG Paints Arena. The men's game will be followed by the Duquesne women vs. Kent State.
