PITTSBURGH - Duquesne running back
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) was named an Athlon Sports All-American on Wednesday, his fifth postseason All-America honor following his standout 2018 season.
Hines also garnered First Team All-America honors from the AFCA and STATS FCS as well as Second Team All-America nods from AP and HERO Sports.
The NEC Offensive Player of the Year was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award after earning First Team All-NEC accolades for the third consecutive season.
Hines, the 2016 Jerry Rice Award winner for the top freshman at the FCS level, recorded 1,520 rushing yards with 17 total touchdowns during the 2018 campaign. He eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark seven times, tallying over 200 yards from scrimmage in five of those contest. He helped the Dukes win their fifth Northeast Conference crown to go with the program's second FCS Playoff berth and first FCS Playoff victory with a 31-10 victory at No. 16 Towson in the first round.
Hines finished the season third in the FCS in rushing yards and fifth in rushing yards per game. He caps his junior year with 3,849 rushing yards to go with 38 rushing touchdowns.
