PITTSBURGH -
Michael Hughes led six players in double figures with 17 points - including 15 in the second half - to help Duquesne (11-5, 2-1) to an 85-84 win over Saint Joseph's (7-9, 0-4) at the Palumbo Center.
It was the fourth time this season Duquesne, which was down 15 in the first half, has rallied from a double-digit deficit to post a victory.
Tavian Dunn-Martin hit a career-high five 3-pointers in scoring a career-best 15 points for the Dukes.
Marcus Weathers added a season-high 15 points and
Frankie Hughes and
Sincere Carry added 12 points each for Duquesne, which hit a season-high 13 3-pointers.
Eric Williams Jr. was the sixth Duke in double-digits with 10 points.
Charlie Brown led Saint Joe's with a game-high 28 points.
There were 10 ties and seven lead changes before
Michael Hughes gave DU the lead for good at 75-73 on a bucket with 2:52 left.
Williams Jr. followed with a put-back dunk to make it a four-point game.
Frankie Hughes hit a big 3-pointer late in the shot clock to make it 80-75 with just under one minute left.
Michael Hughes followed with a pair of free throws to give the Dukes their largest lead at 82-75.
The Hawks, who finished 9-of-24 from 3-point, cut it to 83-81 with 24 seconds left on 3-pointers from Taylor Funk and Chris Clover.
Williams Jr. hit one-of-two free throws before the Dukes forced a 3-point miss that was rebounded by
Michael Hughes with eight seconds left. Hughes made one free throw to seal the win.
Saint Joe's hit their first four 3-point attempts in jumping out to an 22-7 lead. The Dukes, who opened 1-of-7 from the arc, hit seven of their next 10 3-point attempts - including three from Dunn-Martin - to take a 40-39 lead at the half.
Brown, who scored 17 in the first half, had five early in the second to help the Hawks a 56-48 lead. The lead remained at eight before Weathers,
Michael Hughes and Dunn-Martin combined for an 8-0 run to tie it with 12:32 to go.
Following the run, neither team led by more than three until Williams Jr.'s dunk with 1:54 left.
Michael Hughes led DU with eight rebounds. Weathers and Williams Jr. added seven board apiece.
Carry had five rebounds, six assists and three steals to go along with his 12 points. Dunn-Martin added five assists.
Duquesne shot 49.2 percent to 47.6 percent for Saint Joseph's.
Duquesne heads to Virginia to face Richmond on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) in the first of consecutive road games. The Dukes will return home prior to traveling to Washington D.C. to take on George Washington on Sunday, Jan. 20. (NBCSN).
NOTES
- This was the fourth time this season Duquesne, which was down 22-7 with 11:51 left in the first half, has rallied from a double-digit deficit to win. The 15-point comeback is second only to an 18-point comeback win over Longwood on Dec. 9.
- The win was Duquesne's third in the past five meetings with Saint Joe's.
- DU's 13 3-pointers (13-of-29) were one more than its previous season high of 12 (three times), the last of which came against Maryland Eastern Shore.
- It was the first time since a 120-112 CBI win over Omaha (March 16, 2016) that the Dukes had six double-digit scorers.
- Tavian Dunn-Martin came off the bench to notch career highs in points (15) and 3-pointers (5-of-9). Dunn-Martin's previous scoring high was 14 at Notre Dame earlier this season. He went 4-of-9 from 3-point at Bowling Green as a freshman at Akron.
- Marcus Weathers had a Duquesne-high 15 points. Weathers' career high is 19 (twice) set as a freshman at Miami, Ohio.
