Crawford, Zanotto Named NEC Players of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. - Wide receiver Nehari Crawford (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Central) and linebacker Brett Zanotto (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional/Maryland) each earned Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week honors for their performances in helping the Dukes pick up a 31-26 victory over visiting Dayton on Saturday at Rooney Field, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.

Crawford was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the award with Wagner running back Ryan Fulse while Zanotto garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Crawford enjoyed a career day against Dayton, tallying career highs of 11 catches for 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He hauled in an 80-yard touchdown grab in the victory, which represented a career-long reception for the preseason All-American. His 223 receiving yards mark the fourth-highest total in a game by a Duquesne player.

In addition, Crawford eclipsed the 2,000-yard receiving mark in the game and now has 146 career receptions with 26 career touchdown catches.

Zanotto recorded a career-high 10 tackles with nine solo stops and two tackles for loss to go with a pass breakup in the Dukes' triumph over Dayton.

With Duquesne holding its 31-26 lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Zanotto registered tackles on three straight plays in the red zone for the Dukes. He first stopped Dayton quarterback Jack Cook at the line of scrimmage followed by a tackle of running back Richie Warfield for no gain. On third down, he snuffed out the Flyers' toss play and stopped running back Tucker Yinger for a loss of four yards, forcing Dayton into a fourth-and-goal situation from the 10-yard line.

Zanotto added two more red zone tackles with the Flyers threatening on the first drive of the second half before a Dayton fumble gave Duquesne possession. He currently paces the Dukes with 28 tackles (20 solo) on the season.

Wagner kick returner Denzel Knight was named the NEC Special Teams Player of the Week while Bryant wide receiver Shelton McNeal earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.

Duquesne is back in action on Saturday when the Dukes travel to Hawaii.
