March 23, 2018 PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne football team wraps up its 2018 spring season with the annual spring game this Saturday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
The format for the game will be four 15-minute quarters with a running clock. Saturday's spring game is open to the public.
The Dukes were split into two teamsfor the spring scrimmage, Blue and White, in addition to quarterbacks Brett Brumbaugh (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette), Daniel Parr (Jupiter, Fla./William T. Dwyer/FAU) and Alex Smith (Dormont, Pa./Keystone Oaks) as well as long snapper Trey Harper (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne/Robert Morris), who will split time on both teams.
Head coaches for the game will be defensive line coach Tony Papley (Blue) and run game coordinator/tight ends coach Matt Stansfield (White).
The Dukes return 12 starters (six on offense, six on defense) in 2018 for head coach Jerry Schmitt, who enters his 14th season at the helm of the Duquesne program, including six All-NEC selections.
Running back A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike), wide receiver Nehari Crawford (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Central) and linemen Alex Conley (Akron, Ohio, Walsh Jesuit) and Matt Fitzpatrick (Pennsauken, N.J./Bishop Eustace) return on offense for Duquesne while defensive backs Abner Roberts (Pittsburgh, Pa./University Prep) and Jonathant Istache (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Central) return on defense for the Dukes, who have won four NEC titles in the last seven seasons.
Duquesne officially opens the 2018 campaign on the road at UMass on Saturday, August 25.
