PITTSBURGH - Running back
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike), offensive lineman
Alex Conley (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and defensive back
Jonathant Istache (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Central) each collected another postseason honor on Wednesday afternoon, as the Duquesne trio earned HERO Sports All-America distinction.
Hines was named to the second team with Conley and Istache each garnered third team accolades.
This is the fourth season in a row in which a Duquesne player was named to the HERO Sports All-America teams, as Christian Kuntz was a first team selection in 2015-16 and
Ben Huss earned third team honors a year ago.
This represents Hines' sixth postseason award after being named a STATS FCS First Team All-American, an Associated Press FCS Second Team All-American, Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-NEC and First Team All-ECAC. In addition, he was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award for FCS Offensive Player of the Year. The junior rushed for 1,520 yards on the season, good for third at the FCS level to go with 17 total touchdowns.
Conley, a two-time All-NEC selection, helped the Dukes tally at least 200 yards on the ground or the air in nine contests this season. In three years as a starter, he helped pave the way for Hines to post 20 100-yard rushing performances. In addition, Duquesne led the NEC in rushing in two of the last three years.
Istache, also a two-time All-NEC pick at defensive back, was a turnover machine for the Dukes, recording a league-best four interceptions to go with three forced fumbles on the year. He closed out the season second in the FCS with a total of 19 passes defended (4 interceptions, 15 pass breakups) while also tallying 45 tackles (33 solo) and a fumble recovery.
Conley and Istache each collected First Team All-ECAC nods earlier this week, as well.
