CHARLESTON, S.C. - Duquesne running back
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) was named the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday.
Hines finished with 246 yards from scrimmage with a pair of touchdowns in Duquesne's 31-10 victory in the FCS Playoffs at No. 16/19 Towson on Saturday afternoon. The NEC Offensive Player of the Year tallied 175 yards on the ground on 28 carries with a rushing score to go with a 71-yard touchdown reception, helping the Dukes secure their first-ever FCS Playoff win.
Hines eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the sixth straight week and the seventh time overall this season. In addition, he registered over 200 yards from scrimmage for the fifth time this year.
Averaging 6.3 yards per carry against the Tigers, he rushed for nine first downs in the triumph. His 71-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter gave the Dukes the lead for good at 17-10. In addition, his three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.
The junior ranks third in the FCS with 1,499 rushing yards on the season and fifth in the country with 15 rushing scores.
Hines and the Dukes travel to fifth-ranked South Dakota State for an FCS Playoff Second Round matchup on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in Brookings, S.D.
