SOMERSET, N.J. - Duquesne junior quarterback
Daniel Parr (Jupiter, Fla./William T. Dwyer/FAU) was named the Northeast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Dukes' 38-31 victory at Central Connecticut State on Saturday, helping DU claim its fifth NEC title and earn its second bid to the FCS Playoffs.
Parr threw for 277 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns in the championship-clinching win over the defending champion Blue Devils. He was responsible for seven third-down conversions in the second half, the last of which lifted the Dukes into the FCS Playoffs. On 3rd-and-8, Parr connected with
Nehari Crawford (Fort Pierce, Fla./Fort Pierce Central) across the middle on a 56-yard scoring strike which put Duquesne on top 38-31 with just 24 ticks remaining in the contest.
The FAU transfer also helped the Dukes convert on four third-down attempts on the opening drive of the third quarter, including a 27-yard completion to
Kellon Taylor (Landover, Md./DeMatha Catholic) on 3rd-and-19 from midfield. Parr would keep it himself on a three-yard touchdown rush to cap the drive, pushing the Duquesne advantage to 28-17.
His first touchdown pass, throwing 23 yards across his body to
Aidan Cain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) in the end zone, knotted the contest at 14-14 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
Parr's 23 completions (23-of-33) represented a career high while his 277 yards through the air marked his second-highest total of the season.
This is Duquesne's fifth consecutive NEC Offensive Player of the Week nod as
A.J. Hines (Wilson, N.C./Fike) earned four consecutive Player of the Week awards over the last four weeks. Parr shares this week's honor with Wagner running back Ryan Fulse.
The Dukes open the FCS Playoffs with a first-round matchup at Towson this Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. ET.
