Duquesne To Retire April Robinson’s Number 32

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne Department of Athletics has announced it will retire the jersey number 32 of women's basketball guard April Robinson. The ceremony will be held prior to the Dukes' game on Jan. 27th against George Washington at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

"April Robinson is one of the most important players in our women's basketball program history," said head coach Dan Burt. "From starting every game in her career, to leading our program to our first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, April has been the catalyst for our success. Many former players have helped build our foundation and April has led the way with her efforts and success on the court, in the classroom and in the workforce."

Robinson, who graduated in 2016, finished her career as captain of Duquesne's most successful team. As a senior, Robinson led the Dukes to a program record 28 victories, the team's first-ever Atlantic 10 regular season championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Duquesne women's basketball Class of 2016 finished with 95 victories – still the winningest class of all time.

She finished her storied career ranked fourth in program history in scoring with 1,598 points, first in 3-pointers with 249, second in assists with 578 and first in games played and started with 133.

One of Duquesne's most decorated student-athletes, Robinson was the 2016 Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year after averaging 14.9 points per game and 6.4 assists per game. Additionally, she was a WBCA All-America Region 1 Finalist, ECAC Women's Basketball All-Star and a Lieberman Award Finalist.

A model student-athlete, Robinson was Duquesne's 2016 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, a member of the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team and was named the prestigious Atlantic 10 Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She earned her degree in December 2015, graduating Cum Laude with bachelor of science in management.

"It was always a dream of mine to play college basketball and Duquesne gave me that opportunity," said Robinson. "I never expected to have had the career that I did and none of it would have been possible if it wasn't for my coaches and teammates who pushed me past my limits. There have been a number of great athletes who have come through this program and to have my jersey be retired is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who played a role in my career from coaches, teammates, athletics trainers, academic support and fans. This wouldn't be possible without them.  Thank you for believing in me."

Robinson becomes only the third Duquesne women's basketball player to have her number retired joining Korie Hlede (number 25) and Beth Friday (number 40).
