Aug. 9, 2016 VRBAS, Serbia - The Duquesne women's basketball had a long day as they left Pecs, Hungary and traveled four-plus hours to Vrbas, Serbia to face Zenski Kosarkaskio Klub, one of the top teams in the Serbia A Division. The game was played 160 miles north of sophomore guard Julijana Vojinovic's hometown of Cacak.
After falling behind early on, a 9-0 run put the Dukes ahead 19-11 with 2:32 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Dukes kept the momentum, building a 22-point lead on Vojinovic's buzzer beater that made the score 45-23 heading into halftime.
The Dukes extended the lead to 30 point by the end of the 3rd quarter and had their largest lead of the game at 41 point late in the 4th quarter.
"We had a very gracious crowd today in Vrbas," said head coach Dan Burt. "We had key contributions from Amadea Szamosi, Brianna Thomas and Chassidy Omogrosso. Julijana Vojinovic continues to show her ability to score along with adding a little flair to her lead guard responsibilities."
"We fouled too often early on by not moving out feet, but played much better as the game went on. Our transition game was good today with our guards rewarding our posts with passes from easy baskets. Amadea and Angela Staffileno both ran the floor very well."
Following the game, Duquesne returned to Budapest for the evening and will have an early morning flight to Dubrovnik, Croatia.
