Tess Drotar and Jill Vacanti scored two goals each, but it was not enough as Duquesne (2-5) suffered an 11-6 loss to visiting UMBC (6-3) Saturday morning at Rooney Field.
UMBC scored the first five goals of the contest en route to an 8-2 halftime lead. Kaelin Shaw scored for DU at the 11:49 mark while Vacanti's first goal came with two seconds remaining in the half.
Vacanti then scored 2:11 into the second frame and Drotar followed at the 18:49 mark to cut the Retrievers' lead to 8-4, but the teams exchanged goals for the remainder of the game with UMBC ending the day's scoring with one tick left on the game clock.
Jenna Bishop managed nine saves in goal as the Dukes were outshot, 32-23.
The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, April 1 as they host St. Bonaventure at 4:00 pm in the Atlantic 10 opener.
