Kaelin Shaw recorded her second straight hat trick, but it wasn't enough as Duquesne lost its second straight game by one goal with a 10-9 loss at Richmond Sunday afternoon.
Michelle Morris also scored three goals while Macy Marafioti added a goal and two assists. Jill Vacanti chipped in two assists and two ground balls while Melissa Hanson added two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
In a tightly played contest with neither team having more than a two goal lead in the contest, the Dukes sat with a 5-4 advantage at the half after four straight Duquesne goals in a little over a five minute span made it 5-3 DU with 7:15 left in the opening period. Richmond found the back of the net though with 1:13 left to close the period.
The Spiders however scored the first two goals of the second stanza and never trailed from that point on. Tess Drotar scored with 3:38 left to make it a one goal game, but no goals were scored after that point. The Dukes had a free position shot with one second left in regulation, but the UR keeper made the save to secure the win.
The Dukes fell to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in Atlantic 10 play and sit in a fifth place tie with La Salle in the nine-team Atlantic 10 standings.
The final weekend of A-10 play begins on Friday as the Dukes host seventh place Davidson on Friday, April 24th at 3:00 on Rooney Field. The Dukes wrap up the regular season on Sunday, April 26th at 1:00 pm at home for Senior Day versus third place George Mason.
