Dec. 8, 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Football Team
AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior linebacker Sam Martello of the Duquesne football team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American Second Team, it was announced by the national organization late last week.
Martello, an accounting major who registered a 3.68 grade point average, was one of 49 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) players honored, and just one of two from the Northeast Conference joining Robert Morris' Nick Faraci.
A 2015 First Team All-NEC selection, Martello led the Dukes with 81 tackles, including nine in the team's FCS Playoff matchup with then-ranked 13th William & Mary, where he also forced a fumble. Additionally, he recorded two fumble recoveries and intercepted a pass on the season.
This is third time in Martello's illustrious four-year career on the Bluff where he has been recognized by CoSIDA. He was voted to the then-named Capital One Academic All-District Team in both 2013 and 2014.
