DU Football Loses at Bryant, 38-17

Duquesne's football team made its first NEC road trip of the season and suffered its first conference loss, falling to Bryant, 38-17 Saturday afternoon in Rhode Island.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 10-0 first quarter lead before Christian Kuntz intercepted a Bryant pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown with 1:36 remaining in the half to make it 10-7. BU responded though as Dalton Easton hit Taylor Barthelette on a 14 yard pass with 25 seconds left in the half to take a 17-7 advantage into the intermission.

Bryant extended its lead to 24-7 on a 22-yard touchdown catch by Jose Depadua with 9:47 remaining in the third quarter before Duquesne answered with a 21-yard Austin Crimmins field goal with 14:12 on the fourth quarter clock.

The Bulldogs then moved its lead back to 21 points with a Ricardo McCray 17 yard touchdown run before Wayne Capers ended Duquesne's scoring with a 13-yard touchdown reception from Dillon Buechel to make it 31-17 with 3:04 to play. Hunter Taute closed out the game's scoring with a 26-yard TD reception with 1:56 remaining in the contest.

Rafiq Douglas led the Dukes with 64 yards rushing on 11 attempts while Wayne Capers had seven catches for 76 yards and a score. The Dukes were held to 284 total yards while Bryant tallied 485 yards.

On defense, Christian Kuntz led the Red and Blue with 11 tackles (7 solo) and had four stops for a loss in addition to his interception return for a score.

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they travel to Robert Morris for a 6:00 pm kickoff.
