QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne women's tennis team has a successful weekend in Buffalo when they participated in the UB Invitational Oct. 9-11.
Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman each went 1-1 in Flight A singles. Isaacs came back after dropping the 1st set against Akron's Sophia Geier to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round. Herman was also down a set to Niagara's Stella Peisakhova before coming back to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Both Dukes fell in the semifinal round
Alexa Miller represented Duquesne in Flight B singles. She won two of three matches, taking the quarterfinal match over Akron's Luisa Echeverry 7-6, 6-3. She fell in the semis, but was crowned 3rd place after defeating Binghamton's Sara Kohtz via withdraw.
In Flight C singles, Megan Wasson and Ally Miller dropped their quarterfinal matches, but rebounded to win in the backdraw. Wasson 6-0, 6-4 over Niagara's Haley Hollins and Miller 6-2, 6-3 over Shea Brodsky of Binghamton.
Sara Shashura advanced to the semifinals of Flight D after Defeating Binghamton's Olga Ostrovetsy by forfeit. Shashura would fall to NU's Syndee Wheeler and would play Aleksandra Golawska from Cleveland State for 3rd place. Golawska was a 6-3, 6-2 winner. Sara Mitrovic was the consolidation winner, recording wins over Akron's Waverly Wituski 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and CSU's Jana Schober 6-3, 6-0.
Zuzanna Stelmaszak was the Flight E consolidation champion. She picked up wins over Leann Richert (Niagara) 6-1, 6-2 and Paulina Tafler (Binghamton) 7-5, 6-1. Koralie Etienne advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tafler. She eventually was the 3rd place winner with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Allison Roma of Binghamton.
In doubles, Isaacs and Shashura were Flight A doubles champions, defeating Buffalo's Laura Holterbosch and Tanja Stojanovska 7-5. Wasson and Herman made it to the Flight B doubles finals before UB's Margarita Kotok and Dayana Agasieva got past them 6-3. Mitrovic and Alexa Miller were Flight C champions. They took out CSU's Victoria Bensimon and Katy Quillin 6-4.
UP NEXT: The Dukes will travel to Lynchburg, Va. for the ITA Championship hosted by Liberty University. The event begins Oct. 15th and last through Oct. 19th.
