EVENT:2014 Penn Relays, Franklin Field, Philadelphia

HISTORY: Held on April 21, 1895, in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania's Spring Handicap Track and Field Games, the meet, now the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country, was a greater success than hoped for, drawing an attendance of approximately 5,000, the largest track and field crowd to that time in Philadelphia. At the dawn of the 20th century, track and field in the United States was centered around the three large eastern cities of Boston, New York and Philadelphia, so it is evident that in addition to being the largest track crowd in Philadelphia, it was immediately one of the largest ever in America.

QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne women's track team participated in the historic Penn Relays this weekend. The Dukes fared well in the Eastern high Jump with Louise Prevoteau finishing 7th and Sherie Key 13th with jumps of 5-6 and 5-4.5 respectively. Ashley Adams was 13th of 32 in the discus with a throw of 149-5. Anna Simone was 14th of 52 runners in the 400m hurdles, crossing in 1:00.32.

The 4x100 relay team of Abby O'Connell, Kim Watterson, Elisa Joyce and Shannon Abraham were 8th in their heat and 78th overall with a time of 50.21. The 4x400 team of O'Connell, Simone, Abraham and Prevoteau were 8th in their heat and 54th overall with a time of 3:54.62.

A-10'S UP NEXT - The Dukes will head to Amherst, Mass. For the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship on May3-4.
