Preview: Track & Field Opens Four-Day Stretch in Central PA

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University track and field teams are set for a four-day stretch in central Pennsylvania this week. The Dukes will open with multi events at the Susquehanna Outdoor Multi on Thursday and Friday before sending 47 student-athletes to compete at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday and Sunday.

DUQUESNE ENTRIES THREE STRAIGHT ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
  • Mary Grusky earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors after a program-record javelin throw of 51.75m (169-9) at George Mason last weekend.
  • Duquesne has now claimed Rookie of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks, marking the first time in program history three different student-athletes have earned the honor in three straight weeks. It is also tied for the second-most rookie of the week honors in a single season in program history.

  • Men's Record Book
    • Nick Keller recorded the fifth-fastest times in program history in both the 200m (21.50) and 400m (47.67) in his collegiate debut at Charlotte. He moved up to fourth all-time in the 400m last weekend (47.54) and posted a 10.55 in the 100m, the second-fastest mark in program history and the fastest by a Duke since 2022.
    • Nick Payne's 52.05m in the hammer ranks second all-time at Duquesne and is the program's best mark since 2005.
    • Dino Nadarevic's 48.52m in discus ranks third all-time and is the program's best in two decades.
    • Jadon Rahman improved his fourth-place standing in the 800m (1:51.89), while Cody Mankowski is tied for fourth all-time in the high jump (1.95m).
  • Women's Record Book
    • Nadia Constantakis reset her school record in the pole vault (3.86m) at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
    • Mary Grusky moved into the top spot in program history in the javelin with a throw of 51.75m (169-9) last weekend, surpassing teammate Makayla Keck, who had set the previous record on opening weekend. Keck also posted a personal-best throw of 51.09m (167-7) and now ranks second all-time, as the duo became the first in program history to eclipse 50 meters in the event.
    • Also last weekend, the 4x100m relay of Melani Schmidt, Rose Kuchera, Isabella Costa, and Selma Bajgoric recorded the second-fastest time in program history (46.78), the program's best mark in five seasons. Anna Rorrer improved her No. 4 spot all-time in the 400m hurdles (1:00.73), Sylvia Kashak moved into fourth in the 800m (2:08.27), and Rose Kuchera now ranks fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.19).
    • Sylvia Kashak ran the No. 4 time in the 1500m (4:29.94), while Melani Schmidt ranks fifth in the 200m (24.99) from opening weekend in Charlotte.

  • Duquesne boasts 45 marks ranked among the top 10 on the Atlantic 10 performance list this season, highlighted by seven conference leaders: Mary Grusky (javelin), Rose Kuchera (triple jump), Madelyn Moretti (shot put), Mia Pierce (discus), Nick Keller (100m), and the women's 4x400m and 4x800m relays. Grusky and Makayla Keck rank among the top 15 in the NCAA East in javelin, while Kuchera's triple jump mark sits 39th in the region.
