Seven Dukes Named All-Northeast Conference

Nov. 26, 2014

All-NEC Teams

Seven Duquesne University football players - including six underclassmen - received All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors in a vote of the league's coaches. In addition, freshman linebacker Nathan Stone (Scottdale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) was named the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Named to the First Team were Stone, junior wide receiver Chris King (Crofton, Md./DeMatha Catholic), senior wide receiver Devin Rahming (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) and junior defensive lineman Zach Zidian (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman).

Stone led the Dukes and is second in the NEC in tackles with 100 (53 solo). The Jerry Rice Award Watch List honoree and Oct. 13 NEC Rookie of the Week also managed eight tackles for a loss of 29 yards, which included three sacks for a loss of 25, three pass break-ups, three quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Stone is second in the nation in FCS among freshmen in total tackles and fourth in tackles per game.

King leads the Northeast Conference and is third in the country in touchdown receptions with 14 despite missing the season finale with an injury. His 1,127 receiving yards leads the NEC, is 12th in the nation and is good for fourth best all-time in a season at Duquesne.

Rahming made First Team All-Conference as a return specialist and Second Team as a wide receiver. He leads the NEC and is second in the country in kick return average at 31.0 and also averaged 10.4 yards on 14 punts. Offensively, he led the Dukes with 71 receptions and was second with 727 yards and four touchdowns. He also found the end zone twice on returns ... once on a kick-off and once on a punt.

Zidian managed 61 tackles (31 solo) while occupying multiple offensive linemen and allowing linebackers Stone and Sam Martello to lead the team in tackles. A 2013 NEC Second Team All-Conference choice, he also finished the season with seven tackles for a loss of 14 yards, a sack for a loss of five yards, two pass break-ups and a blocked kick.

Second Team honors went to Rahming, freshman offensive lineman Ben Huss (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair), sophomore offensive lineman Larson Graham (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) and junior linebacker Sam Martello (Westlake, Ohio.St. Edward).

Huss and Graham anchored the right side of the Dukes' offensive line. Graham started all 12 contests at right tackle while Huss, who made his first collegiate start at center in game two, started the final 10 games at right guard. The combo gave pass protection to three different quarterbacks during the season and helped five different players lead the team in rushing throughout the year.

Martello was second on the team and 10th in the NEC with 86 tackles (46 solo). He also added seven tackles for a loss of 27 yards, two sacks for -14 yards, two pass break-ups, four quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. In the season finale victory over Robert Morris, he had a game-high nine tackles, an interception with a return of 47 yards and a sack which helped him receive NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors.
