Women's Tennis Splits Matches

HARMAR, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team opened the 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference season last weekend 1-1 after defeating Saint Joseph's 4-3 and falling George Washington 4-3.

The match against SJU came down to the final singles match. The Dukes took the doubles point with the teams of Sarah Shashura and Megan O'Sullivan at #1 and Judy Li and Alexa Miller at #2 both picking up wins. The Hawks took the #1, #2 and #3 singles points. Miller and Chandler Consonery were both winners at #4 and #5. With the match tied at 3-3, it came down to the #6 spot - Laurence Lambert and Arianne Polatnick. The first set was won 7-5 by Polatnick. Lambert came back in the second set 6-3 and won the third set 7-5 to clinch the match 4-3.

Sunday's match against GW started out with the Colonials winning the double point. The teams split the six singles matches with O'Sullivan, Consonery and Lambert all winning at #2, #5 and #6.

The Dukes return to the court on Friday to host Toledo on Friday. Start time is 1:30 p.m.
