ALBUQUERQUE - The Duquesne volleyball team finished the Sheraton Airport/LA Boxing Classic 3-1 after splitting matches in the final day of the event on Saturday. DU defeated Southern 3-0 before falling to host New Mexico 3-2.
It took Duquesne only 61 minutes to take care of Southern 25-7, 25-8, 25-12. Sara Scheirman led the Dukes with nine kills. Patti Abshire had 10 digs and Mary Henry 20 assists.
In the final match of the evening, after splitting the first two sets, UNM won the third and fourth set 25-20 and 25-12 to take the match 3-1. Ashley Buse led Duquesne with 13 kills. Henry added a double-double of 40 assists and 16 digs.
After finishing the four-match event with 25 kills, 13 blocks and a .365 hitting percentage, Marah Farage was named to the All-Tournament Team. As was Henry who had 127 assists.
The Dukes' home opener is Friday Aug. 31st when Providence visits the Palumbo Center. Match time is 11 a.m.
