HARMAR, Pa.- The Duquesne women's tennis team split two matches this weekend, falling to California, Pa. before defeating Colgate. Both matches were at Alpha Tennis & Fitness of Pittsburgh.
DUQUESNE 7, COLGATE 0
The Dukes improved to 2-2 on the season after recording its first shutout of the year, 7-0 over Colgate. DU did not lose a single set and only dropped a total of 10 game in singles and four games in doubles.
Coming off a tough loss the day before, Vanessa Steiner too #1 singles 6-3, 6-3. Megan O'Sullivan returned to the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Paula Gruber was victorious at #3 singles 6-1, 6-2. Judy Li picked up her first win of the spring 6-2, 6-2 at #4 singles. Chandler Consonery took #5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Tara Majdalani was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at #6 singles.
Duquesne swept the doubles point easily with Steiner and Consonery winning at the #1 slot 8-1, O'Sullivan and Li blanked Colgate at #2 8-0 and Majdalani and Gruber were 8-3 winners at #3.
CALIFORNIA, PA. 5, DUQUESNE 2 The Dukes took on California University of Pennsylvania on Friday. The Vulcans are the #11 ranked team in Division II and came in 3-0 on the season. CalU picked up the doubles point and won the #1, #2, #4 and #6 singles matches to come away with a 5-2 victory.
